30 Days of Thanks – Day 1 and 2

November 2nd, 2009

I woke up this morning and read here about another blogger who is blogging each day for the 30 days of November something she is thankful about. It stuck with me and have decided to join in the fun.

I’m a day behind, so here is what I was thankful for yesterday (November 1st). I just spent the better part of the day with my mom and daughter. We went to see a local dance production. I love my mom but I have learned to limit the amount of time I spend with her. Time is better spent with her in small amounts. After having spent hours with her and coming home on the verge of an anxiety attack…I walk in the house and my husband gave me the warmest – sweetest hug and my world was better.

So for Nov 1st (Day 1) I am thankful for my husband and his gentle ways.

This morning (Day 2) I am grateful for Halloween. My daughter just came home this morning from her dad’s house. He took her trick or treating and I dreaded the bucketful of  candy and the ensuing negotiations that were going to take place. We finally agreed on two pieces of candy – one at lunch – one after dinner. This will go on for a week until the candy mysteriously “disappears”. It’s more for me than her. I mean really – a bucketful of my favorite candy sitting just yards from my desk? I hear it calling my name as I write. I can resist pretty much anything but the siren call of my favorite chocolate.

But as I looked at the bucket full of candy I realized that it is the perfect manifestation of abundance. Think about it. You walk a neighborhood (not necessarily your own), go to a complete strangers house expecting to receive what you want (a treat) without having to give anything else in return.  Yes there is work here. You have to show up. We dress up in a costumes and walk door to door. We ask / say “trick or treat”. Isn’t that what all the self-help / spiritual teachers have been trying to teach us all along? To ask for what we want and then open ourselves up to receiving? Hmmmm….I think I’ll have a piece of chocolate while I mull that over : D
