Thought of the Day

March 1st, 2010

It’s been a busy kid weekend. Birthday parties, staying up late and play dates makes for some tired kiddos who turn on you. My dad and his girlfriend stopped by on Saturday and we all decided to go out to dinner to a local restaurant. I had every intention to make dinner but by the end of a very long day with a cranky girl – I was too spent to make dinner for 6 people.

In the middle of dinner as I was ordering my second glass of wine (I find wine calms the frayed nerves and the overwhelming urge to give my child away) I looked around and saw other mom’s with a glass of wine as well. I think if Motherhood ceased to exist the wine industry would fold like a cheap lawn.

Boundaries

August 4th, 2009

I have it written in my blog bio that my personal and business life are all mixed together by the fact that I work from home. But it occurred to me today that I can still have boundaries between the two…right? I mean we live in homes with other people and our lives are all linked together but we still manage to give each other space and respect each others boundaries.

My daughter is sick. Very sick. She has the flu (not swine thankfully) and has been running a temperature of 102 degrees and north for the last 3 days. The Dr said it needs to run its course and do the best that I can to keep her comfortable.

The sucky part about working at home (and I think is a new lesson in boundaries for me) is that its sometimes very hard to walk away from my office. I’m sitting on the couch with her and staring at my home office thinking I need to check my email. I have to finish this project. I need to post. I realized that by working from home I’ve taken the belief that I still need to work under conditions that are perfectly acceptable for me not to work. Like taking the day off to care for my daughter and nurse my sleep deprivation.

This is where I need to draw boundaries with MYSELF. I’m good at respecting other people’s boundaries and letting other people know mine. For some reason I’m not so good at respecting my boundaries with myself. Like allowing myself to take a day off after staying up all night with a sick child.

Fun Friday!

May 1st, 2009

Wahoo it’s Friday! It’s been a busy week and my sanity walked out on me sometime on Wednesday between finishing up on a client’s project and rushing my daughter to theater class : D

I can always tell when it’s a busy week. I usually grab whatever is easiest to snack on…and that’s usually something I buy for the girls. I can tell this week has been unusually busy as my keyboard is very sticky from the Fruit Gushers that I’ve been eating while working!

It’s time for some fun. Here’s a cool community that I joined recently and have been having fun with. It’s called TodaysMama.com It’s a great place to connect with other mom’s, read articles and just be a part of a fun community.

Have a great weekend!
